Katherine Snow Smith knows writing.

She teaches it at UNC-Chapel Hill and High Point University, is an award-winning newspaper reporter, editor and the author of two well reviewed collections of personal essays.

(She’s also a grammar nerd.)

Katherine earned her B.A. in Journalism and M.A. in Media and Communication at UNC-Chapel Hill. After working for various newspapers, including 20 years at the Tampa Bay Times, she returned to her native Raleigh.

Katherine now teaches and writes for Our State, Business North Carolina, Walter, O’Henry and SouthPark.

Katherine has worked with numerous students applying for college and graduate school during various parts of the process.

She goes through all steps— from interviewing and brainstorming to determine the story a student needs to tell, followed by detailed outlining and then she critiques and edits numerous drafts.

She also can help with the final draft only to strengthen and tweak it before hitting submit.
